-Widower. Wife died a year or two ago (breast cancer). Her favorite flowers were pink roses. He visits her grave once a week, usually just to think.
-He buries himself in work to avoid grieving, so he usually spends 60+ hours a week on his cases.
-Awesome dad WHEN HE'S AROUND. WHICH IS NOT OFTEN.
-He likes coffee
-He usually goes over case files in Miles's room. The most time he spends with Miles is spent in and old rocking chair next to his bed, and Miles is usually asleep
-He likes scotch. A lot. A little too much, actually, and it's bordering on alcoholism...even if he doesn't think so.
-He's not an avid smoker, but has a cigarette from time to time.
-His computer doesn't see much use...he doesn't really know how to work it other than to play solitaire.
-He loves golf. He doesn't get to play that often anymore, but goes out to a driving range from time to time.
-He loves old black and white movies. Casablanca? One of his all-time favorites.
-He's got old-fashioned values, so he sometimes seems a bit out of touch. He's just from a different era.
-He wears a big, clunky gold watch everywhere. It was his father's.
-He still wears his wedding band
-He's actually a rather happy man, especially around Miles. He has photographs of his son in his wallet and shows them off whenever he gets the chance.
-He's very articulate, but his speech is often rather direct and informal. He hates people to think he's trying to be better than they are, so he "dumbs down" around people. If he doesn't have to use a word or phrase, he simply doesn't.
-...and on that, he is guilty of the cardinal parental sin of misusing slang.
-He only speaks English, but recognizes many languages simply by sound.
-He honestly believes that, deep down, everyone is good. People might so bad things, but people themselves are essentially good.
-He believes in his clients, to a point. To him, the most important part of a trial is to simply find the truth and make sure that the criminals are justly punished. As such, his case history is mottled with losses.
